One of the perks of being a reality TV star is the access to doctors, dentists and a glam squad to help beautify you for your time on camera. The trade-off for these aesthetic professionals is having a client who brings more exposure, and thereby expands your reach to their fanbase. Fans of reality TV shows like Mob WivesLove and Hip Hop and T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle may have found Dr. Ayman Shahine through his “celebrity clients,” but what many patients found after choosing him for their cosmetic work is that he is not a trained and qualified plastic surgeon—in fact, he’s a gynecologist, and many former patients are claiming he is responsible for their botched procedures.

Inside Edition spoke to a few former patients who described their unsatisfactory experiences with the “celebrity cosmetic surgeon.” These experiences sometimes included the doctor falling asleep during procedures, not wearing gloves during surgery, not using anesthesia and botched results that left them with misshapen body parts. In the video clip, a 29-year-old former patient shows a disfigured backside after multiple Brazillian Butt Lift surgeries. The doctor, who is currently being investigated by a New York state oversight board and sued by former patients, sat down with Inside Edition and said that many of the unsatisfactory results are due to patients not following his postoperative advice.

As he is not a trained and qualified plastic surgeon, Dr. Shahine is not eligible for board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. One thing is clear from this story, the best way to avoid being the victim of a botched procedure is to research your chosen plastic surgeon to verify their qualifications, training and board certification. Unfortunatly for these women, the lure of having a “celebrity cosmetic surgeon” perform their procedure may have been the driving force for their decision.
